In case you’ve been living in a vacuum, most people use their websites as their business model for making money. Then… you have to “help” people find your fabulous website. The people who visit your website are called, collectively, “traffic”. And again, the more traffic your site gets, the more chances you have to convert some of that traffic to sales. Just like applying for a job, you want to make as much as possible – so that is the point to it all. So now we’ll go into how you can increase those traffic numbers to your site.
Submit your website to secondary search engines, but let Google and Bing index your site through other means such as links you can help get noticed. The fastest way to get your site indexed in Google, or Bing, is using Web 2.0 strategies. It won’t take very long to submit to several dozen secondary engines. You can definitely receive traffic from them and rank easier, the major engines will also view that as your site being more popular. There are hundreds of ways to get backlinks to your site, and not all are created equal – that’s for sure. You don’t want all high PR, high-power backlinks because Google recognizes that as unnatural, so having a good variety will make things look more normal, and natural.
It’s important to check the links on your site to be sure they are working. It’s hard to go from one place to another if the links are broken. And your one time visitors just might leave immediately and possibly never come back. Another important reason is that they stop the search engine spiders and bots from crawling your site, and you never want that to happen.
Think about your domain name before registering it. Believe it or not, having a good domain name really does matter. The ideal domain name should be related to your site’s niche and easy to remember. Publicity and networking are important for your business, whether it’s on or offline. Domain names with strange spellings, hyphens are that are very long tend to get forgotten or ignored. You want people to forward your domain name to as many people as possible. With a domain name that’s too unusual or hard to spell, there is a greater chance that mistakes will be made when someone wants to copy and send it. So you want to have an interesting domain name, but not one that’s too offbeat!
There are quite a few ways to drive traffic to your site. But generally speaking, it’s usually a never-ending process. Unless you outsource, building backlinks and working on traffic should be attended to each day. There are a lot of different ways to do this so, the good news is, traffic generation will probably never be boring! If it helps, maybe thinking about your profits will offset any feelings of extreme boredom.
