Since Osiris Web Services began affiliate marketing as part of the activities involved with doing search engine optimisation, the work has had a greater impetus. The two activities go together very well and having the angling shop means that there is now a direct commercial arm as well as the services provided to other websites.
The first job of affiliate marketing is to locate suitable affiliate programmes, preferably with a long range of advertisers who have plenty of attractive banners to present for placement on the pages of the shop. The affiliate programme owners must also of course be honest and reliable as it takes quite a bit of work to arrange partners and get the agreement and organise your partners’ links and banners on your pages. Subsequent to that you are in the control of others as shoppers using you to click through to your partners may or may not buy, but if they do, you are depending on on the various bodies to pay the commission. But, and this is a big but and others will say foolhardy, my default position is to trust the people I am working with. This exposes me to abuse I know, but there it is, I sharn’t be amending it.
The subsequent job of course is the SEO of the pages on the shop site. This is the nice part since in choosing which niche to get involved with in affiliate marketing, producing articles is made simpler by doing it about something you know something about. Also, it makes it simpler getting the site enrolled on business directories which is another very vital job involved in SEO as well as offering press releases, tweeting about news of the site showing links to the relevant pages, creating an RSS feed (copy to the Facebook page natch) and making certain that all is in place for the search engine robots to feast on links and relevance to the pages.
The serendipity of search engine optimisation and affiliate marketing is a fine one, they complement each other very well, one gives sureness of purpose to the other and if somebody is trying affiliate marketing without very active SEO, they will not make any money. Of course the same is to be said of any website that ignores a proper online marketing theme, because you can be positive some of your rivals have, and it is their websites that the business is being done, not at yours.
So while maintaining my own affiliate marketing shop and activity, I am also more than keen to execute proper, effective search engine optimisation for anybody with their own affiliate marketing site, or any website come to that, as long as it will not affect my own, but that is extremely unlikely.
