There are few actors in this day and age that have as impressive a resume as the great Denzel Washington. There is a lot to like about this incredibly talented actor, and it certainly goes beyond his charm. Denzel manages to play a number of different types of roles, and at this point in time, seems to have the pick of the litter when it comes to choosing his scripts.
While there will certainly be more great Denzel Washington movies for years to come, this article will focus on my favorite films starring him up to this point in time.
Probably Denzel’s most historically significant role was in the film Glory, in which he played a volunteer soldier in the Union Army. This Civil War film is a must see for anyone looking to learn more about the time period.
Another great Denzel Washington film is the Spike Lee directed drama He Got Game. This movie also stars the great Ray Allen as Jesus Shuttlesworth, who also happens to be a great basketball player. If you are a fan of Spike Lee or basketball films (or both), you have to see He Got Game.
“You can’t handle the truth!” This is one of the most memorable quotes in American cinematic history, and comes from the Tony Scott film, Crimson Tide. This movie was one of Denzel’s earlier roles, but still one of his best.
Another fantastic film to check out that stars Denzel Washington is the Spike Lee hit, Inside Man. I don’t want to spoil the details of this film, but it is the highest grossing Spike Lee film of all time and revolves around a bank heist, also starring Clive Owen.
I would be remiss to make a list of Denzel films without mentioning one of his most memorable roles, none other than coach Herman Boone in the Disney football film Remember The Titans.
Hopefully there are one or more films on this list which you have yet to see.
